Cod Fishing Update- The weather looks good for the next couple of days, so we will be sailing on Wednesday January 6. The trip will leave at 3am and come back at 4pm. We still have plenty of room so give us a call if you would like to join us. The number is 631 668 5700 ext 0. You can also make a reservation online. We are sailing on the Viking Starship and the fare is $110.

December 31- New Years Eve Cod Report

Capt. Steven Sr reports a very promising start to local cod season with over 50 2009 models coming over the rail. 9 year old Alex Blaskiewics took the pool with a 12 pounder. Young Alex is a true Viking fisherman- he fished hard from 4:45am till three horns blew ( with no gloves) and still had energy to nail Capt. Anthony with snowballs back at the dock. Teddy whacked 7 beauties and our own Ray had 4 thanks to Richie Nessel who vacuumed the dogs so the rest of the boys could catch cod. Brendan Reddan had 5 fish to 11.75lbs. In addition to the cod we also had a nice mess of ling, sweet tasting cunners, and some very big silver eels to 15lbs. There were herring, mackarel, and butterfish being either jigged or spit out by cod so the bait is here as well. Hopefully Mother Nature brings us a fishable 2010! All of us at the Viking Fleet would like to thank everyone for a fantastic 2009 and we wish everyone a healthy and happy 2010, with coolers full of fillets! 2010 Viking Starship Local Cod

Starts Sat Jan 2, Sun Jan 3, Sat Jan 9 and Sun Jan 10. Starting January 15 we will sail every Wednesday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday (weather permitting). The fare is $110 and we will reserve 75 anglers. Viking Starship Local Cod will depart from Montauk at 3am, returning at 4pm. Reservations are strongly recommended. The 125' Viking SuperStar is on standby as a second boat for those very popular days. Your full price ticket on these trips will guarantee entry in the 2010 Viking Fleet $10,000 Cod Derby.

2010 Viking Star ULTRA LIMITED PASSENGER Local Cod

Captain Steven's signature trip, limited to 28 anglers for your fishing comfort. Starting January 15 we will sail every Wednesday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday (weather permitting). The fare is $160. The Viking Star ULTRA LIMITED PASSENGER Local Cod will depart from Montauk at 1am, returning at 3pm. Reservations are REQUIRED. Codfishing Mixed reports

Codfishing reports from the Block Island area were mixed over the last few days. Some boats got them, some didn't. You just had to be on a pile of fish that was feeding and if you weren't it was tough fishing.

There was a strong current on Saturday making it difficult to drift.

Wreckfishing for Cod(20-40 mile wrecks) locally off Point Pleasant, NJ was good on Saturday with the Gambler, Point Plesant, NJ reporting a good catch of Cod. Most anglers had a few keeper cod and some had 5-7 fish with fish up to 20 pounds or so.

Montauk Codfishing Update 1/29/10 BE PREPARED!

Codfishing slowed up off Block Island the past few days. The full moon tends to effect the bite and It appears the moon is having an effect on the fishing now. Fishing should improve after this on the down side next week. Make your reservations now so you don't miss out.

Over the past month good catches have been made but reports have been inconsistent as well. Sometimes bait is better and other times jigs work best depending on what the cod are feeding on. Be prepared for both and change your strategy as conditions warrant. Listen to the captain and watch the mates and anglers who are catching. Be prepared to adapt and you will succeed.

Don't waste the Cod!!!

Codfishing remains very good out of Montauk and R.I. The cod are building up off Block Island and limit catches have been reported.****Please don't waste the codfish*****Some of the fish over the past few years have had "worms" in the flesh. These are common and are harmless to humans when cooked properly or frozen. They can also be easily removed by shining a light through the fillet and removing them with a sharp pointy knife. If this still bothers you, e-mail me and I will take them. Here is a link regarding the cod worm.

COD UPDATE 1/18/10

The Viking fleet of Montauk, reported great codfishing on the 19th as well as the 17th. Limits were had by 11:30 on the 19th and it seems the fish are larger with cod up to 35lbs landed.

The Voyager of Point Pleasant reported cod up to 20lbs and limit catches of porgies on the Sat. off shore trip. Some fisherman caught two Cod, some had 12 to 15 ling. Not bad overall.

The Big Jamaica of Brielle reported Friday offshore trip was good. They caught Pollock up to 30LBS, cod up to 25LBS, plenty of jumbo porgies, and some ling. Everyone on board had a good catch of fish. Some of the cod and pollock were caught on jigs and the rest on clams. The Saturday report was similar.

DAILY COD FISHING UPDATE 1/14

Cod fishing remains good in Montauk NY. Local Cod reports from the Viking Fleet were good on Wednesday the 13th with most anglers having their limit.

The Big Jamaica out of Brielle NJ reported a good catch on their offshore trip on 1/10. The trip produced some nice Pollock, cod, jumbo porgies, and ling. The Pollock weighed up to 30LBS and the cod weighed up to 25LBS. They also caught a good amount of jumbo porgies and some ling.

The Voyager out of Point Pleasant reported similar results on their Sunday trip with COD up to 25lbs, and some Hake, Big Porgies and Big Pollock to 30lbs.
